FanDuel has teamed up with the PGA

Quick Intro

FanDuel is setting its sights on North Carolina, partnering with the PGA in a bid to secure an online sports betting license in the state. North Carolina’s regulations necessitate alliances with certain professional sports organizations, including PGA TOUR events and the PGA, for market entry.

Scott Warfield, the PGA’s Vice President of Gaming, expressed strong familiarity and support for FanDuel, hinting at a long-standing relationship through FanDuel’s role as the TOUR’s official sports betting partner. “We are probably the president of their fan club,” Warfield stated, emphasizing a commitment to a long-term collaboration in the sports betting domain.

Implications of the PGA and FanDuel’s Licensing Effort

FanDuel’s strategic move with the PGA TOUR involves submitting a sports betting license application to the North Carolina Lottery Commission (NCLC), which manages sports betting in the state. Following the legalization of sports betting in North Carolina by legislators and Governor Roy Cooper earlier this year, the NCLC opened a preliminary application period starting December 1, set to conclude on December 278.

FanDuel, a seasoned player in the U.S. sports betting landscape with operations in 23 states and Washington DbC, is expected to smoothly navigate the application process. The company’s significant presence and customer base are advantageous, potentially leading to increased betting activity and revenue for the state.

Final Thoughts

The sports betting market in North Carolina is witnessing a surge in interest, evidenced by the 11 operators, including FanDuel, seeking applications from the NCLC. Notable partnerships have been formed by bet365 with the Charlotte Hornets and ESPN Bet with the Quail Hollow Club, reflecting a strategic alignment with NCLC guidelines. While DraftKings has yet to announce a partnership in the state, the competitive dynamics of the market suggest that such a development could be on the horizon. This growing interest in North Carolina’s sports betting landscape indicates a vibrant and expanding market.
